Why I Keep Sailing Virgin Voyages — and Why You Might Love It Too

August 5, 2025

I didn’t start sailing Virgin Voyages because I became a travel advisor. I became a travel advisor because I fell in love with Virgin Voyages.

Before I ever sold a single trip, I had already sailed twice with them. I’d cruised with Carnival and Norwegian for family vacations, but when it came to solo or girls’ getaways, they didn’t quite hit the mark. Virgin Voyages did, and it still does.

Since then, I’ve been on 7 Virgin sailings, celebrated my 40th birthday on board with over 25 of my friends and family, and taken multiple solo trips. My 8th sailing is already booked for next May, and let’s be honest, I’ll probably sneak in at least one more before then.

Virgin reminded me of all the things I love about vacation: relaxing, seeing new places, making new friends, reconnecting with old ones, and just generally remembering the joy in life. If you’ve ever wanted a vacation that truly feels like yours, this might be it.

Here’s what makes it different (and why I keep coming back):

It’s Adults-Only, and That Changes Everything

Virgin Voyages is a childfree experience, and that shift changes the whole vibe. There’s more peace, more nightlife, and more grown-up luxury without the chaos of a “party cruise.”

As someone who prefers adults-only travel, I love the balance Virgin strikes. It’s fun without being outrageous—my 60-year-old mom has just as much fun as I do, and I love watching it bring out her playful side.

The Food Is Actually Incredible (and Included)

You won’t find any sad buffets here. Instead, Virgin has a food court-style space with several elevated options and six specialty restaurants you can reserve in advance or once on board.

Every meal is included, and the quality is genuinely impressive. From Pink Agave’s upscale Mexican to Extra Virgin’s fresh Italian and The Wake’s stunning brunch, you’ll want to try them all. My personal favorite? Gunbae. It’s a lively Korean BBQ spot with built-in drinking games and a super social vibe. I always book it for the first night. It’s the perfect way to meet other Sailors and make connections you’ll see throughout the trip.

The Vibe Is Chill, Luxurious, and Surprisingly Thoughtful

I’ll be honest, I didn’t get the hype around hammocks at all. But then I tried one on a Virgin Voyages Sea Terrace balcony… and everything changed. There’s something magical about swaying in your own private hammock while listening to the ocean on a sea day. I’ve read books out there, watched the sunset, even done a little work (though I wouldn’t necessarily recommend that last one). It instantly slows you down in the best way and reminds you why you’re really on vacation.

You’ll also find thoughtful design touches everywhere, like cozy seating nooks, clean modern interiors, and wellness perks such as yoga classes and fresh juice bars. The whole ship feels like a floating boutique hotel. It’s high-end without being stuffy. You can relax, recharge, or party, whatever fits your mood, and it all feels easy.

It’s Inclusive, Welcoming, and 100% Come As You Are

One of my favorite things about Virgin Voyages is how inclusive it feels. The crowd is refreshingly open-minded, and the vibe is warm and friendly across the board. It’s a space where people of all ages, backgrounds, and lifestyles can relax and have a great time. You’re free to be yourself here.

There’s also no pressure to dress a certain way or “fit in.” Whether you’re in a ballgown, bathing suit, costume, or hoodie, it’s all welcome. You might see someone heading to dinner in sequins while another grabs a drink in flip-flops—and both are having the time of their lives. It’s not about following rules or trends. It’s about feeling comfortable in your own skin and knowing you’re surrounded by people who are doing the same. Virgin creates a space where individuality is celebrated, and that kind of freedom makes the experience feel even more special.

It Works for Solo Travelers, Couples, and Groups

I genuinely think Virgin Voyages is the best cruise line out there for solo travelers. I’ve cruised solo multiple times and always felt safe, welcomed, and never out of place. Virgin offers dedicated Solo Insider and Solo Sea View cabins, and they often run select sailings without a single supplement for Sea Terrace (balcony) rooms—making it much more affordable to sail alone.

There are solo meetups throughout the sailing, including a solo dinner on the first night, which makes it easy to connect with other travelers right away. I’ve made friends on board that I’ve stayed in touch with long after the cruise ended.

That said, it’s just as great for couples or groups. I’ve sailed with my college besties, taken family trips with my parents and siblings, and even hosted a 40th birthday group with over 25 friends and family. Whether you want a quiet getaway or a celebration at sea, Virgin makes it easy to create the trip you want.

And if you’re planning a group trip, it’s even easier when you have me as your travel advisor. You’ll get one night of group dining automatically, and we can add private events or cocktail parties to make it extra special.

You Get a Lot Without Being Nickel-and-Dimed

Virgin includes so much in the base fare: Wi-Fi, group fitness classes, basic drinks like soda and drip coffee, all restaurant meals, and gratuities. There are no surprise charges waiting at the end—just whatever you choose to spend using your wearable wristband for things like drinks, spa treatments, or shore excursions.

In fact, there have been trips where I didn’t spend another penny onboard. I bought a Bar Tab in advance (Virgin’s version of a drink package), and that was it. Everything else was already included, and it made the whole trip feel that much more relaxing.
